Our Community Goals

Short Term Goals

  • Develop an official checklist that tenants can use to report violations of the city housing code before moving in. 
  • Establish an evaluation survey to educate future tenants of previous housing conditions.
  • Distribute Rental Unit Violation Forms to the Civic Center, Fire Station, and Library in Independence, Oregon.

Long Term Goals
  • Develop and implement a community education program to inform landlords and tenants of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Require deadbolt locks on all outside entrances.
  • Establish municipal account for the holding of all rental security deposits.

  • Providing brochures, magnets, and a rental unit violation form as education material to increase awareness of issues and rights.
  • Issuing a e-mail list-serve to notify the Monmouth and Independence community of MITU action.
  • Dispersing the Rental Unit Evaluation Survey to renters in Independence and Monmouth, Oregon.
